三菜1汤

'I think careful cooking is love, don't you?'

- Julia Child

Now that the family is back, we can resume our  foursome dining. One of the best things I can think of to show how much I looked forward to their return was to cook for them.

We call it 3 dishes and a soup - Minced Pork with Egg Omelette, Okra with Garlic & Chilli Padi, Fresh Organic Tofu with Soy Sauce & Diced Spring Onions accompanied with Radish, Carrot and Enoki Mushroom clear soup.

Overall consensus was that I had improved. That can only be -
careful cooking.

Thanks Dad.

Dreamy Fullerton

We've been shrouded in haze for almost a week now.
One of the nights along the river, the misty air (before it turned really bad) made The Fullerton Hotel looked a little dreamy from afar.

Maple & Market - Cinnamon Rolls

Check out here for classes

Went for my first bread-making class last Saturday at Maple & Market. It was very well organised and I am surely taking more classes if I see something I'll like to make.

I adore cinnamon rolls and it was a dream to make some myself. The result was so good and I was happy to share some with Claire since I was all alone last week with the family travelling.

Now, all I need is an oven.
Oven, I need you.

Real Mushroom Soup

This is the real mushroom soup.

I made it with a mix of white, brown and portobello mushrooms. Roughly chop the schrooms and and fry it with butter and garlic. Season with dried herbs, ground pepper and salt. Mix in vegetable stock. Blend. Return the blend to pot to boil. Serve.

That easy. Honest.

Be still

Macritchie Run

There will come a time where asphalt running needs to give way to trail running. My only reservation was that it isn't that safe to run alone. But I figured if you don't, you never will. And all the glorious sunrises and aches one would have missed out on.

This was my self-declared mid-point before I turning back - was rewarded with a spectacular yet tranquil sight. That was all I needed.

Shalom.

Salad X IKEA

IKEA was stocking some really chic glass bowls some months back. It came in red polka dots / stripes and I had a brain wave to put in a good mix of red and green fruits for they go so well together.

Red   X   Green

In case you are wondering what went on in there - apples, peaches, kiwis, cucumbers, pomegranates, salad leaves and cashews for the crunch. A squeeze of lemon and a drizzle of olive oil.

Crunch away.

The Art of the Brick - Lego Exhibition

When Kay was in town for our last team meeting, we visited the ArtScience Museum. Glad we were there to catch the Lego exhibition that was running at that time. I bet everyone took a picture beside the thinking man made in Lego - with a similar pose. I know I did.

The exhibition has finished its run, but there is always something showing. To know what's on at the moment, visit here

Have fun!

Pork & Kimchi Dumpling Soup

&made

Was watching KBS channel two nights ago when they were showing how to make dumplings. It was beef and kimchi, but I used pork instead. The presenter minced the beef herself and although I never thought I would go to that extent - I did. Minced by hand, and it wasn't as tough as I thought. A good knife surely helped.

There is tofu and shitake mushrooms in it as well. Sesame oil, salt and fresh ground pepper to season. Soup base was water boiled with dried anchovies.

It was so good.

Poulét @ Chinatown Point

French Onion Soup

My first time to Poulét last Sunday.

Had French Onion Soup & the signature Poulét Roti. Expectations exceeded and it was all very délicieux.

More beefy options await me the next time.

Red Brick Walk

We were at the Botanical Gardens twice yesterday. Once in the morning for a walk and again in the evening for a concert. While I love the morning walks, the evening ones are rather magical.

Hurrying along the Red Brick Walk under pink hued skies. And later sitting crossed legged on a mat watching Julian G play 'Claire De Lune'. Felt like a scene from the Wizard of Oz.

Now all I need is a pair of ruby red shoes.

Sunday breakfasts

Breakfasts on Sundays are kind of special.

I spread the newspapers really wide across the dining table. And have those lovely soft boiled eggs with dark soy sauce and fresh ground pepper. It always start off with juice. Juice and oats are staple. Variation comes with the bread. Sometimes jam & butter, sometimes plain croissant, sometimes cucumber sandwiches. Then there are those special days with a bit of fruit salad or scrambled eggs with baked beans and sausages, or pancakes made from scratch. And of course a little hot drink to go along at the end. Something not too grown up, like soya bean milk or Milo. Perfect.

What can I say - I love my breakfasts on Sundays
