Love

Love suffers long and is kind;
Love does not envy;
Love does not parade itself,
is not puffed up;
does not behave rudely,
does not seek its own,
is not provoked,
thinks no evil;
does not rejoice in iniquity,
but rejoices in the truth;
bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.

Motif1 - Heyri Art Village

Motif1 was my first accomodation in Korea and it remains to be one of my most memorable stay. The effervescent Mr. Lee An Soo & his lovely big collie welcomed us with such warmth and friendship that is so hard to forget.

His home (located within Heyri Art Village in Paju City) emanates a seemingly effortless style that resonated so well with me. There's a bit of spontaneity in the air that makes you want to express unreservedly. Early in the morning, I tiptoed to the living room, picked up a book of piano classics and just started playing a bit of Pachebel.

Breakfast was with some artists who were exhibiting near the DMZ. I love the easy-going camaraderie that Mr. Lee encourages among his visitors. He surprises us in many little ways and the best of all we get a little souvenir to keep. I can't say more. You have to visit to know.

Charming place, charming people. A must stay in Heyri.

Double Happiness (囍)

At the end
It was double happiness I found

Only to realise
It was all around

Ask

You asked
If it was lonely
To travel alone

I asked
What is the name of this
And you broke into a song

You asked
Where am I from

Where do we go
I asked

You asked
in your beautiful tongue

I answered
in ways I knew

Thank you
I am not lonely
I met you

I think about my hands

"It is a tragedy of the first magnitude that millions of people have ceased to use their hands as hands.

Nature has bestowed upon us this great gift which is our hands. If the craze for machinery methods continues, it is highly likely that a time will come when we shall be so incapacitated and weak that we shall begin to curse ourselves for having forgotten the use of the living machines given to us by God."

- Mahatma Ghandhi

Happy Pepero Day

11.11

Glad to be well stocked with Pepero on Pepero Day.
We ate Nude & Almond flavours today.
I prefer Almond.

Almond is like Marzipan.
Marzipan reminds me of Martin.
Which brings to mind
It's Martin's name day too.

Happy name's day, Martin~!

Petain Road

As my little island home has in the recent years been displaced by newer buildings, it's heartening to find pockets of beautiful architecture that must have been around for a while. A little online search and I found I was not the only one to discover this place - more nicely put together details here

Poppy seed cake X Diptic

My Turkish friend told me about a cooking class held at the Turkish Cultural Centre and I signed up pronto pronto. His wife was the teacher of this amazing poppy seed cake topped with Turkish cream. I liked it so much that I thought I would give it a spin in Diptic - it's a great app to play with.

The Blue Fox by Sjorn

'The burden that is borne well becomes light'
- Ovid

Jerome's got a book that I picked up to read myself. Seems like my brother has pretty good taste in books. This one is by Icelandic author - Sjorn. Wish I knew how to put that tick above the o. In any case, it's the kind of book that makes you get the story only a while after you have finished.

Apart of the fantastic cover design (looks much better in print), I like the quotation by Ovid.

Whole lot of Necking

By Danielle Kroll

One of the most talented artist by my personal standards. When I get my own little pad, I shall dedicate one or more walls to her prints. This one for sure is going up - love everything about it.

三菜1汤

'I think careful cooking is love, don't you?'

- Julia Child

Now that the family is back, we can resume our  foursome dining. One of the best things I can think of to show how much I looked forward to their return was to cook for them.

We call it 3 dishes and a soup - Minced Pork with Egg Omelette, Okra with Garlic & Chilli Padi, Fresh Organic Tofu with Soy Sauce & Diced Spring Onions accompanied with Radish, Carrot and Enoki Mushroom clear soup.

Overall consensus was that I had improved. That can only be -
careful cooking.

Thanks Dad.

Dreamy Fullerton

We've been shrouded in haze for almost a week now.
One of the nights along the river, the misty air (before it turned really bad) made The Fullerton Hotel looked a little dreamy from afar.

Maple & Market - Cinnamon Rolls

Check out here for classes

Went for my first bread-making class last Saturday at Maple & Market. It was very well organised and I am surely taking more classes if I see something I'll like to make.

I adore cinnamon rolls and it was a dream to make some myself. The result was so good and I was happy to share some with Claire since I was all alone last week with the family travelling.

Now, all I need is an oven.
Oven, I need you.

Real Mushroom Soup

This is the real mushroom soup.

I made it with a mix of white, brown and portobello mushrooms. Roughly chop the schrooms and and fry it with butter and garlic. Season with dried herbs, ground pepper and salt. Mix in vegetable stock. Blend. Return the blend to pot to boil. Serve.

That easy. Honest.
